Specialized has made no secret of their designs on the cyclocross world. They’ve tinkered with their CX bikes, and they really threw down the gauntlet with the Crux. Specialized continues to stock their quiver for the 2011/2012 CX season with a full line-up of high-performance cyclocross tubular tires. We have all three Specialized CX tubulars in stock, so check out the info below and then come in to get what you need. Read More »
Specialized has always made some of the best bikes out there, but most recently, they’ve really broken away from the pack by designing some amazing bikes for women. By recognizing that there are some significant and common differences between male and female riders beyond average height, Specialized Women’s Bikes not only fit many female riders better than other brands, they also ride and handle better. Women specific frame and suspension designs combined with smart components packages make for bikes that are uncompromisingly designed for the needs and wants of all female riders. The trend continues for 2012 and we’re proud to have some new women’s specific 2012 bikes at the shop: the 2012 Amira Apex and Myka Sport Disc 29.
One of the most common questions we get at the shop is, “How much better are the expensive helmets than the $30 helmets?” It’s a great question. All the helmets pass the same safety standards, they all look kinda the same, so why would someone spend up to seven times more? Once we explain that the more expensive helmets are lighter, better ventilated, and better fitting, we almost certainly get the next question, “Ok, so which is the best one?” It’s hard not to say that the Specialized Propero is the best bang for buck.
The Specialized Amira – a true race bike, designed for women from the ground up – debuted in 2010, but it’s getting some big time changes for 2012. Taking cues from both the Roubaix SL3 and the Tarmac SL3, the new Amira is lighter and stiffer that the first generation.
Well, it looks like when you make a great bike, you get might just win an award. We’ve been hyping the 2011 Specialized Tarmac Elite Apex as an enveloping pushing ride; a true entry-level carbon road bike that doesn’t compromise in terms of ride, handling, or performance. Now it looks like the rest of the industry is starting to take notice. Bicycling Magazine just announced that the Tarmac Elite Apex is their Editor’s Choice for Best Recreational Road Bike. Whether you’re looking for an affordable carbon race bike or an all day ride won’t leave you wanting for something a little faster, this is a bike worth considering. We have it in stock in all sizes, so come by and ride an Editor’s Choice.
So, uh, remember that bike that Specialized announced on Wednesday? Well, Matt Goss from HTC-Highroad just rode it to victory in the 2011 Milan-San Remo Spring Classic! We’ll check the record books, but this might be the first time a bike was ridden to victory in it’s debut race. One-for-one, batting 1000, however you want to say it, the new Venge is off to an amazing start.
This doesn’t happen often, so you’ll have to excuse our unbridled enthusiasm; SPECIALIZED JUST ANNOUNCED A COMPLETELY NEW ROAD BIKE! The S-WORKS Venge – developed with McLaren Racing (F1, anybody?) and soon to debut at Milan-San Remo – is not just a new bike, it’s a whole new category of bike: Complete Performance. The Venge will be offered four ways initially: SRAM ($8800, pictured below), Dura-Ace ($9200), Frameset ($3800), and for the first time ever, an above S-WORKS version, the S-WORKS + McLaren ($TBA, pictured above).
Blending the stiffness-to-weight supremacy of the Tarmac SL3 with the aero-dynamic wizardry of the Shiv, the Venge gives riders the best of both worlds. Check out the link, tune into Milan-San Remo, and add the word “Venge” to your cycling vocabulary.
The passage of time is a funny thing. There are times when we look back and think how quickly time flies by, but the very next moment an event in the recent past seems like it took place a lifetime ago.
Take the 2008 season. It was only three years ago, but the age of Quickstep as a super power – Tornado Tom in green, Paolo Bettini in world champ stripes and Olympic gold – seems like a lifetime ago. Since that time, Cav has risen, Lance has retired (again), and the most talent-rich team in the world might just be from Luxembourg.
The coming of the 2011 marks a birthday of sorts; the Specialized Tarmac SL2 is three years old. Why is that good? It means that same bike that was developed for and ridden by the best team of 2008 can now be yours for pennies on the dollar. Come in, test ride the 2011 Specialized Tarmac SL2 Elite with SRAM Apex, and whisper to yourself, in an Italian accent of course, “I am Specialized.”
In case you haven’t heard, Specialized has released their new S-WORKS helmet for 2011: the Prevail, as in, “cooler heads prevail.” We’re really stoked on the new S-WORKS lid, and apparently CyclingNews and BikeRadar are pretty happy too; 4.5 out of 5 stars!
